Planning for Locations

These are all establishing shots of houses at different times of day. The reason I have put these on here is because I do not have the photo that I am needing at the moment, so these are similar shots that I will be taking and the sort of location I will be using. I am only needing one location, this being a house. The whole of my trailer will be based in a household, so once I have got the establishing shot of a house that looks rather intimidating. I will be doing this in a house that I believe will be suitable for a modern day horror film trailer. The way that I will gain access to a certain household is to ask a family member if I will be able to have permission to use the house for recording and taking pictures. It will be more suitable for me if the whole of the house was free so I wouldn't have the excuse of that the other people were distracting me. So once I have gained the owner permission I will both decide on when it is both okay with the two parties to meet on a date and time to use the house.

Planning for Costumes and Props

This is the mask that I have bought off the Internet to use in my final ancillary task, it will become the antagonist throughout the film trailer, a hidden character with a vengeance. The man who plays this character will also be wearing a suit. This will all link in with the 'Masquerade' theme. The reason I have choose this is that we hardly seem to see the villain dressed smart and elegant so I want to make that popular and intimidating. When I was looking at masks on the Internet, I was looking and trying to find ones that would be very similar to the masks used in such films as 'The Purge' and 'The Strangers'. Whilst I was just on google images I stumbled across this type of mask then I searched into more detail, therefore leading me to buying this.

For the other two characters that I have in the trailer, they will just be dressed in normal clothes, nothing to much in detail.

For the props that I will be using is the mask, a machete, fake blood and a set of eyeballs. I have a machete in the house so that is already sorted, the same with the fake blood. For the fake set of eyeballs I have found a website that I will buy these from, once this is sorted I have everything ready for my shooting.

Possible Horror Masks

These are the two possible masks that I will use as the antagonist. The reason that I have chosen these two masks is because recently a lot of successful horror films have been ones where the antagonist has been hiding there identity. So I want to embed the success into my film trailer, and a way to do that is use masks. These are similar to the ones that are used in 'The Purge' and 'Your Next', just to name a few examples. You can link the repetition and difference theory to this.

Video Taget Audience Feedback

These are short videos of when I asked people my target audience questions. I asked for people, two girls two boys are my audience is aimed for both sexes. I briefly recorded them whilst I asked them four questions out of the fifteen possible that I have on offer. Since I asked them the same questions we can see if there will be much of a difference between the four people. What I will get out of recording the people I have is that when I look back to this I will know what the answers are and who gave them.

Weather Report for Photo Planning

This is a weather report of the week that I will be getting my trailer footage and taking photos for my poster and my website. This means that I have to be careful considering the weather when I will be taking my photos and recording my footage. On the other hand some of my photos will be taken inside at the St. Peters University media room, so therefore the weather will not be relivant to that part of the photo taking period.

Self Assessment

This is my self assessment I had to complete. The reason that I had to complete this task is so we understand what we will be getting marked on in the future, so that there is no need to ask Helen what we have done wrong. We will know ourselves. This is very similar to the one we did previously. The only difference is then we peer marked work, therefore it wasn't ours, so this time I have probably been more accurate. As you can see I gave myself a 10/20 which is a D. The reason I have gave myself that score is that because prior to today, I only had 26 or 27 posts and that is not good enough. So once I am finished I hope to be on a 13 minimum, maximum realistically will be 16.

Class Pitch

I had to create a powerpoint to show the class and tell them all about my product that I am creating. I had to brief them on what I had the option of doing and why I have chosen the certain tasks that I have. Go on to tell them my idea for my task. For example my storyline and what I will be using within that. Thirdly going on to say how I have improved from last year, which I can say I feel so much more confident with what I am doing. Then finally end with saying who is my target audience, might I also add that since I created my powerpoint pitch, I have found out a lot more about my target audience.

Feedback from Class

This above is what people responded to my class pitch. As you can see two people obviously did could not find two positive points to my pitch which, personally, I thought was just laziness as it wasn't that hard to find two good point. Although I have taken this on the chin and I will progress from there feedback and continue on with the work, editing it it according to what people think by the feedback.

Colour Scheme

This post is about the color scheme that I will be using in my poster, my trailer and on my website. These are a few colors I have put together and created a collage. By doing this, people reading this post will understand that the colors that I have used will emphases the effect I want with this horror trailer. The dark colors represent the unknown and the danger what you cannot find. The red represents danger and blood that will be within my trailer.

Target Audience Answers

For this I will be using Microsoft Excel to create some pie charts to show what the percentages of the answers are. I will also be recording peoples responses and putting them on another post. Although I will not be using every question on excel. I will use my own common sense to pick out what I think are the most important questions.

From this I now know that if people want to see masks in my horror trailer or not. The answer that we both can see is that they do. My thoughts behind this is that people find this scarier because they don't know what is after them or doing the killing. They cannot explain what is going on and that is the scary part.
This is a very important question I had to ask, the reason for this is becuase I will need to know who I am aiming my film trailer at, and from this I will know what I will need to fit in my criteria for this.I can see from this chart that my main target audience is 16-24. This age group has matured enough to see horror films and not at the age where they have got tired from them.
This was also a important queastion to ask people. From this I can now choose what sub genre to do my trailer on. This simplifies the task for me as I can put a mask on someone and create a teen slasher sort of horror. Therefore mixing two sub genres and keeping a lot of people happy whilst in the progress of doing so. I will not be choosing the other sub genres and the reason for this is becuase they were not that popular and I simply do not want to do them.
From the answers to this question I now know not to put a female actor as my main character in my trailer. This is not me being sexist this is me being honest and I want my trailer to be the best it can possibly be, and if I was to cast a female in the leading role it would most likely not have that affect. According to my tartget audiene results.

Target Audience Questions

Favourite sub genre of horror?
Prefered gender of main character?
Masks, yes or no?
How often do you watch horror?
Where would you watch a horror film?
Are you a fan of horror?
What is you favourite horror film?
Why? (To the previous question)
Where would you normally see a trailer?
Would you go and search for a trailer? Instead of bumping into one.
In a horror, would you like to see A-listers or not?
How old are you?
What sex are you?
Text throughout the trailer?
Why? (To the previous question)

These are the questions that I have choosen to ask to find out my target audience. The reason I have created a target audience questionnaire is to find out more about the people who will be watching my trailer, going on my website and seeing my distrobution poster. Once I have found out all these answers it will make it easier for myself to know what I will do for my final product.

My Institution

Even though that this was my first attempt at my institutional logo, I feel like, personally, I do not need to take this further as I am satisfied with my logo. In addition to this I am also not very advanced at photoshop, as I have said many times previously. So I do not want to spend all my time on making the best logo possible, when I can be progressing onwards with my ancillary tasks, which in the shame of things, is a lot more important. H&H productions was something that just sprung to mind, stands for my surname twice, no deeper meaning. The reason I had to create on is that once I have finished all my tasks, this little logo will appear on everything.

Action Plan

In order to keep up with all the A2 work, I have been given a number of deadline dates and rough ideas when certain areas of our coursework should be complete,. By doing this it will help me keep focused on each section so I have time to dedicate to each component of my work.

October Half Term - by this point I should have completed all my reconstruction tasks and completed all my research and planning.

Christmas - my final product, which means the trailer, the poster and the website should all be half way done, it is not a major problem if not, but this is where I should be.

Late January - My trailer should have been completed by this time.

February Half Term - by this point all three ancillary tasks should have been completed.

Reconstruction Poster

The image at the top is my attempt at trying to reconstruct the 'The Purge' poster. As you can tell this is not exactly the same as the real poster, although I did try rather hard to get everything in place so that it would look as similar as possible. The reason that I think that it does not look as close is the effects that they have on the face of the real poster. When it comes to creating my final poster for my own trailer, I will look more in detail and create the best poster I possibly can.

Possible Font Ideas

These fonts are the rough ideas I have for the font I want to use on my website, poster and I could even use it on my trailer when the text comes up for example. There was some more fonts I wanted to  use that I downloaded from dafont.com. Yet after I installed them, they still were not appearing. If I do manage to find them/get them to work. I will create another post and put those fonts onto that post.

The 'reece'

Institutional Research

http://www.ssninsider.com/the-top-10-horror-production-companies-capitalizing-on-fear/

Part of the brief that I was given for my film trailer was to be between one minute thirty and three minutes. Therefore I have done some reason into existing institutions that produce a film trailer.

A film trailer should be between those two certain times, and the reason for this is that this is the best amount of time to give to show what the audience needs to know for the film, and what should know for the film. If you have the trailer any shorter you will give to little away and they won't understand what the film is about, and if the trailer is too long then you will give to much away, thus the target audience might not see the film as they can presume what will happen from the trailer.

This is a list of the films that Blumhouse Productions have produced. As you can see there is a lot of successful films there and a few of my inspirations are there, such as Paranormal Activity and The Purge, and they have produced not just one of them but all of the sequels. So I could use this production company to go along with my film trailer.

This is a list of the films that Rouge Film Production company have produced. There are not as many films compared to Blumhouse Productions, so in that sense there are not as good to use compared to them. On the other hand I could use more than one production company so I might use this company as well

In fact I have came to the conclusion that I will use both these production companies in my film trailer, therefore I will need to put the logos that they both use in my trailer, website and my poster.

Possible Trailer Names

This post is basically me just listing possible possible names to give my film trailer. Since I am doing a horror, I want to name my trailer something that will give people spine tingling feelings when they read it out and think about it. I also want it to be punchy, like in your face type of thing.

Poster Flat Plan

Film Poster Rationale

Colour Scheme:
The colors that I plan on using on this poster will be the same colors as I plan on using on my website, thus maintaining a theme and synergy. Those colors are going the colors that I have put on my mood board. I am not going to use to many colors because then it becomes to much for a poster, begins to look unprofessional. The text that I will be using just depends on the color of the main image.

Image Use:
In my poster there will only be one image that I will be using, the reason that I have chosen to do this is because all the film posters I have deconstructed and the ones that I have inspired me to do so only have one image. The main image. I have not yet decided on what will be my aim image.

Text Usage:
The text on the film poster will be aligned together so that it flows better and is therefore easier to read. If the text was scattered all over the poster then it would be much harder for the audience to read it and therefore it will be a poor form of advertisement as it is not fulfilling its main purpose. I may use an effect on the title of the film, the reason in me doing this is because I am wanting the title of the film to stand out compared to anything else. In the film posters that I have deconstructed they do not have a age rating on the film poster itself. Leaving it open for everyone to see basically. I am going too embed this onto my poster. The title of the film will be in the largest font, secondly lead by the tagline the last the essential information.

Layout and Font:
The layout and the font will be very similar to the few film posters that I have put previously on my blog. They have been successful in what they have done and I want to replicate that onto my poster. I want my poster to follow the conventions of a horror poster as I know then it will have a fan base and be successful. The font that I finally decide on using I want it to be easily recognizable.

Website Flat Plan

A flatplan shows where all articles and adverts are laid out, and in what order. It allows complete control of the publication production process avoiding confusion. A flat plan also needs to be clear so it can be easily understood with a chosen target audience to outline what your ideas are going to be.
