Last week of 2014

This is the last week of 2014, meaning that I should have the drafts at all in by Friday. I have delayed my recording twice now for annoying purposes and now it will be on Thursday the 18th of December. Once I have all the footage done I will be editing it on Adobe Premier Pro, this will obviously take more than one lesson do develop all of my footage to create my film trailer. I will be completing my poster and my website on that Friday as that will not take as much time to complete as I really only have to add my photos then maybe tweak a few things. So today I have done this post and I will create hopefully one more.

Time Management Progress

In seven day time I will have to hand in the draft version of all my ancillary tasks, so that will mean handing in my film trailer, my poster and my website. At this exact point I have not yet completed all of the tasks, I have nearly completed my poster all I need to do is add my photo which I will be taking on this Sunday. I was going to take my photos and videos yesterday, being the 11th of December, yet my actors pulled out as they were at a gig, so the next day that I am available is the Sunday, hopefully I will get everything done that needs to be so that I have a good enough draft for the deadline.

Film Sound Effects

Above this is a link to a youtube video of a collage of stereotpyical scary horror sound effects, in my opinion that is what puts fear into the eyes of the audience. I was rather frightened and creeped out just listening to this video. I found these sound effects gripping as they captured my attention and I found that they have a sinister undertone and this was the effect I am pushing forward to achieve too. I took inspiration from this short video to make sure I add this type of sound effects throughout my film trailer. About two thirds of the way through the trailer the masquerade killer will be shown, when this is on screen I want contrapuntal music playing in the background to make the audience feel uncomfortable, I was thinking like something along the lines of John Lennon's Imagine. I will first need to get permission from his representatives.

How to work Premiere Pro

As I have said in a few of my other posts I have not had a real go on Adobe Premiere Pro before and even though I have had a little go editing with peers, I believe I am at the stage where I know what are a few buttons yet once I had watch this video I know a lot more about the software and feel a lot more confident when I finally get around to edit my trailer. I have included a link below to the video I watched, which covers almost every area of the program. By watching this video I have ensured that when it comes to editing I am ready to put together my trailer to outstanding effect.

Friday 28th November

Today was more of a catch up with the blog type of lesson rather than doing my ancillary tasks, although I know I should not be doing blog work in class time anymore, I am not getting more footage/pictures till the 4th of December, which is a Thursday. That is the date that I will be getting all the filming done, that is the date that I have agreed with the location owner.

So instead of thinking of what I could do next lesson, I thought why waste my time doing that and actually progress with my blog, because I think of it as if I do not do any work in lessons, I am basically losing marks for my final grade.

Draft Two Poster

I believe that this is my best piece of coursework so far, I think that if you would compare this to any of my other drafts this stands out as being the one that is far ahead of the others. Before I talk about what is good and what I have changed compared to the past drafts, just to say that the image that I have used is not mine, I have copied and pasted from google images to see what would suit best with the change of style. I think that this style of image that I have used is one that goes very well with this template. The reason I have used this sort of template design is because I was going through my inspirations and the Paranormal Activity poster came up and I decided to give that a bash and see what the outcome would appear to be.

Poster Attempt Two

Comparing this with my last post that I did from my poster you will be thinking I have not made any progress, and in some ways, that is rather correct. I have taken away the image and there is a reason for that, I have also looked back at my inspirations and got some peer/teacher feedback and realized that the film title should be placed higher up and not in the way of the main image. The reason I have taken the main image that I used previously off is because I did not think that it was the correct image for me to use. The image that I want to use is one of the full mask with a little bit cut off hiding some identity.

Fourth Attempt at Website

It is a shame that I had to screenshot twice so that I could show all of my website. This is starting to come along rather good and I am pleased with the progress that I am making. What I have changed from last time if you can notice is that I have added a background to the slide show. The reason I added this was because I asked my peers how could I improve the website and the blankness was one of the few things I was informed upon. This is a possible picture to use in the background although I will be taking more photos and having a play around when I do have those photos. When I put the picture on my website, I found it rather hard
put it so that it was behind the text and visible to see everything. So what I had to do was google how it was done and once I had found the suitable information it was easy enough to go from that point onwards. I also moved the title, the release date and the social media hashtag around, increasing the size of them making them more of a sight rather than something at the top of the page.

First Draft for Website

This is my first draft of the website that I have to create as one of my ancillary tasks. For this I found out that I only had to create a homepage, I feel like I have put the necessary information on the homepage if people were to use it, it would be simple enough to show yourself round. The color scheme is the same as my first draft of the distribution poster, the creates synergy between the movie trailer.

First Attempt at Poster

This here is my first attempt for the distribution final poster for my horror trailer. As you can tell I will not be using this as my final piece as it is nowhere near as good as I want it to look like. What has inspired me, specifically, is 'The Purge' poster. I think the layout and the main image (only image) is very thorough, I like the colour technique they use and that will be something I will try to replicate. The background image is one that I will be changing, I am going to get a photo of a man wearing a mask, and take a close up of him wearing the mask showing about 75% of the mask/face. The reason I want this is because it adds a sense of mystery to the poster. A certain 'what's he hiding?'. The font on the other hand I am rather pleased with. I am highly debating using this font as it creates synergy with the title, the same level of class that is masquerade. I feel like the bottom of the poster is something that only needs slightly adjusting to make it look a lot better, that will not take to much time I am hoping. In conclusion I am rather satisfied with my first go at my horror trailer poster.

Final Draft for Practice Recording

To help my practise and finally get a go at editing a piece of filming I created a short film where two actors would do simple things, we had to record it and see what we could put together and see what the final outcome would be, considering this is the first time I had ever used a camera to record something and the first time using that certain piece of software. This is what I came out with in the end after a few attempts on editing all the footage I had together. There is some sound effects that I could and maybe should of added on to block out some of the sound that we have in the background. Although even though I have not added sound I think that this is rather a good go at editing with about thirty minutes experience.

Trailer Name Final Decision

I have came to the conclusion that I will want to use the word 'Masquarade'.

The reason that I have came to that conclusion is becuase it fits in with the mask that will me worn by the antagonist in the trailer. Another reason why I have chosen this out of everything else, is becuase why I found out the definition of masquarade,
'pretence, deception, pose, act, front, facade, disguise, dissimulation, cover-up, bluff, subterfuge, play-acting, make-believe;
informalput-on '

That came up and when I foudn out that I thought it was very fitting to have this as my horror trailer name.

Time Management Last Research Day

This is me on the last day off blog work in class. What I am doing is editing my first go of putting some clips together. The purpose of me doing this is having a go at editing clips so I have that little bit of experience before I have to edit my final trailer. I personally found this rather hard at the begining, not only using this bit of software. But actually directing the clips, I really underestimated how hard it would be. From the editing we had the choice to add sound to the clip, yet we did not know how to do that, so for next time I will have to research into this to find out how to add sound. This was also the last lesson I had to go on my blog in class. Meaning that if I have to finish or add anymore work to my blog I will need to do it in my own time.

Planning for Actors

There will only be three actors in my film trailer. The antagonist, the man with the mask on. Then finally there is the male and the female. The body type for the antagonist I want to be rather tall and skinny, an ectomorph. The female I would like small, so they come across as being weak and vulnerable. Like a traditional teen slasher, I would like them to be blonde and large breasted but that is not a must have. And the male I do not have any specific qualities that they must have. What will be the hard part, is not finding the correct people, it is once I have done that, which is most likely the easy part, then getting all of us to find a time that is fitting for all of us and then for them to actually be good at acting. Which from people that have ever acted before in there lives, which is the most likely probability, they are not going to be good at all.

Planning for Locations

These are all establishing shots of houses at different times of day. The reason I have put these on here is because I do not have the photo that I am needing at the moment, so these are similar shots that I will be taking and the sort of location I will be using. I am only needing one location, this being a house. The whole of my trailer will be based in a household, so once I have got the establishing shot of a house that looks rather intimidating. I will be doing this in a house that I believe will be suitable for a modern day horror film trailer. The way that I will gain access to a certain household is to ask a family member if I will be able to have permission to use the house for recording and taking pictures. It will be more suitable for me if the whole of the house was free so I wouldn't have the excuse of that the other people were distracting me. So once I have gained the owner permission I will both decide on when it is both okay with the two parties to meet on a date and time to use the house.

Planning for Costumes and Props

This is the mask that I have bought off the Internet to use in my final ancillary task, it will become the antagonist throughout the film trailer, a hidden character with a vengeance. The man who plays this character will also be wearing a suit. This will all link in with the 'Masquerade' theme. The reason I have choose this is that we hardly seem to see the villain dressed smart and elegant so I want to make that popular and intimidating. When I was looking at masks on the Internet, I was looking and trying to find ones that would be very similar to the masks used in such films as 'The Purge' and 'The Strangers'. Whilst I was just on google images I stumbled across this type of mask then I searched into more detail, therefore leading me to buying this.

For the other two characters that I have in the trailer, they will just be dressed in normal clothes, nothing to much in detail.

For the props that I will be using is the mask, a machete, fake blood and a set of eyeballs. I have a machete in the house so that is already sorted, the same with the fake blood. For the fake set of eyeballs I have found a website that I will buy these from, once this is sorted I have everything ready for my shooting.

Possible Horror Masks

These are the two possible masks that I will use as the antagonist. The reason that I have chosen these two masks is because recently a lot of successful horror films have been ones where the antagonist has been hiding there identity. So I want to embed the success into my film trailer, and a way to do that is use masks. These are similar to the ones that are used in 'The Purge' and 'Your Next', just to name a few examples. You can link the repetition and difference theory to this.

Video Taget Audience Feedback

These are short videos of when I asked people my target audience questions. I asked for people, two girls two boys are my audience is aimed for both sexes. I briefly recorded them whilst I asked them four questions out of the fifteen possible that I have on offer. Since I asked them the same questions we can see if there will be much of a difference between the four people. What I will get out of recording the people I have is that when I look back to this I will know what the answers are and who gave them.

Weather Report for Photo Planning

This is a weather report of the week that I will be getting my trailer footage and taking photos for my poster and my website. This means that I have to be careful considering the weather when I will be taking my photos and recording my footage. On the other hand some of my photos will be taken inside at the St. Peters University media room, so therefore the weather will not be relivant to that part of the photo taking period.

Self Assessment

This is my self assessment I had to complete. The reason that I had to complete this task is so we understand what we will be getting marked on in the future, so that there is no need to ask Helen what we have done wrong. We will know ourselves. This is very similar to the one we did previously. The only difference is then we peer marked work, therefore it wasn't ours, so this time I have probably been more accurate. As you can see I gave myself a 10/20 which is a D. The reason I have gave myself that score is that because prior to today, I only had 26 or 27 posts and that is not good enough. So once I am finished I hope to be on a 13 minimum, maximum realistically will be 16.

Class Pitch

I had to create a powerpoint to show the class and tell them all about my product that I am creating. I had to brief them on what I had the option of doing and why I have chosen the certain tasks that I have. Go on to tell them my idea for my task. For example my storyline and what I will be using within that. Thirdly going on to say how I have improved from last year, which I can say I feel so much more confident with what I am doing. Then finally end with saying who is my target audience, might I also add that since I created my powerpoint pitch, I have found out a lot more about my target audience.

Feedback from Class

This above is what people responded to my class pitch. As you can see two people obviously did could not find two positive points to my pitch which, personally, I thought was just laziness as it wasn't that hard to find two good point. Although I have taken this on the chin and I will progress from there feedback and continue on with the work, editing it it according to what people think by the feedback.

Colour Scheme

This post is about the color scheme that I will be using in my poster, my trailer and on my website. These are a few colors I have put together and created a collage. By doing this, people reading this post will understand that the colors that I have used will emphases the effect I want with this horror trailer. The dark colors represent the unknown and the danger what you cannot find. The red represents danger and blood that will be within my trailer.

Target Audience Answers

For this I will be using Microsoft Excel to create some pie charts to show what the percentages of the answers are. I will also be recording peoples responses and putting them on another post. Although I will not be using every question on excel. I will use my own common sense to pick out what I think are the most important questions.

From this I now know that if people want to see masks in my horror trailer or not. The answer that we both can see is that they do. My thoughts behind this is that people find this scarier because they don't know what is after them or doing the killing. They cannot explain what is going on and that is the scary part.
This is a very important question I had to ask, the reason for this is becuase I will need to know who I am aiming my film trailer at, and from this I will know what I will need to fit in my criteria for this.I can see from this chart that my main target audience is 16-24. This age group has matured enough to see horror films and not at the age where they have got tired from them.
This was also a important queastion to ask people. From this I can now choose what sub genre to do my trailer on. This simplifies the task for me as I can put a mask on someone and create a teen slasher sort of horror. Therefore mixing two sub genres and keeping a lot of people happy whilst in the progress of doing so. I will not be choosing the other sub genres and the reason for this is becuase they were not that popular and I simply do not want to do them.
From the answers to this question I now know not to put a female actor as my main character in my trailer. This is not me being sexist this is me being honest and I want my trailer to be the best it can possibly be, and if I was to cast a female in the leading role it would most likely not have that affect. According to my tartget audiene results.

Target Audience Questions

Favourite sub genre of horror?
Prefered gender of main character?
Masks, yes or no?
How often do you watch horror?
Where would you watch a horror film?
Are you a fan of horror?
What is you favourite horror film?
Why? (To the previous question)
Where would you normally see a trailer?
Would you go and search for a trailer? Instead of bumping into one.
In a horror, would you like to see A-listers or not?
How old are you?
What sex are you?
Text throughout the trailer?
Why? (To the previous question)

These are the questions that I have choosen to ask to find out my target audience. The reason I have created a target audience questionnaire is to find out more about the people who will be watching my trailer, going on my website and seeing my distrobution poster. Once I have found out all these answers it will make it easier for myself to know what I will do for my final product.

My Institution

Even though that this was my first attempt at my institutional logo, I feel like, personally, I do not need to take this further as I am satisfied with my logo. In addition to this I am also not very advanced at photoshop, as I have said many times previously. So I do not want to spend all my time on making the best logo possible, when I can be progressing onwards with my ancillary tasks, which in the shame of things, is a lot more important. H&H productions was something that just sprung to mind, stands for my surname twice, no deeper meaning. The reason I had to create on is that once I have finished all my tasks, this little logo will appear on everything.

Action Plan

In order to keep up with all the A2 work, I have been given a number of deadline dates and rough ideas when certain areas of our coursework should be complete,. By doing this it will help me keep focused on each section so I have time to dedicate to each component of my work.

October Half Term - by this point I should have completed all my reconstruction tasks and completed all my research and planning.

Christmas - my final product, which means the trailer, the poster and the website should all be half way done, it is not a major problem if not, but this is where I should be.

Late January - My trailer should have been completed by this time.

February Half Term - by this point all three ancillary tasks should have been completed.

Reconstruction Poster

The image at the top is my attempt at trying to reconstruct the 'The Purge' poster. As you can tell this is not exactly the same as the real poster, although I did try rather hard to get everything in place so that it would look as similar as possible. The reason that I think that it does not look as close is the effects that they have on the face of the real poster. When it comes to creating my final poster for my own trailer, I will look more in detail and create the best poster I possibly can.

Possible Font Ideas

These fonts are the rough ideas I have for the font I want to use on my website, poster and I could even use it on my trailer when the text comes up for example. There was some more fonts I wanted to  use that I downloaded from dafont.com. Yet after I installed them, they still were not appearing. If I do manage to find them/get them to work. I will create another post and put those fonts onto that post.

The 'reece'

Institutional Research

http://www.ssninsider.com/the-top-10-horror-production-companies-capitalizing-on-fear/

Part of the brief that I was given for my film trailer was to be between one minute thirty and three minutes. Therefore I have done some reason into existing institutions that produce a film trailer.

A film trailer should be between those two certain times, and the reason for this is that this is the best amount of time to give to show what the audience needs to know for the film, and what should know for the film. If you have the trailer any shorter you will give to little away and they won't understand what the film is about, and if the trailer is too long then you will give to much away, thus the target audience might not see the film as they can presume what will happen from the trailer.

This is a list of the films that Blumhouse Productions have produced. As you can see there is a lot of successful films there and a few of my inspirations are there, such as Paranormal Activity and The Purge, and they have produced not just one of them but all of the sequels. So I could use this production company to go along with my film trailer.

This is a list of the films that Rouge Film Production company have produced. There are not as many films compared to Blumhouse Productions, so in that sense there are not as good to use compared to them. On the other hand I could use more than one production company so I might use this company as well

In fact I have came to the conclusion that I will use both these production companies in my film trailer, therefore I will need to put the logos that they both use in my trailer, website and my poster.

Possible Trailer Names

This post is basically me just listing possible possible names to give my film trailer. Since I am doing a horror, I want to name my trailer something that will give people spine tingling feelings when they read it out and think about it. I also want it to be punchy, like in your face type of thing.

Poster Flat Plan

Film Poster Rationale

Colour Scheme:
The colors that I plan on using on this poster will be the same colors as I plan on using on my website, thus maintaining a theme and synergy. Those colors are going the colors that I have put on my mood board. I am not going to use to many colors because then it becomes to much for a poster, begins to look unprofessional. The text that I will be using just depends on the color of the main image.

Image Use:
In my poster there will only be one image that I will be using, the reason that I have chosen to do this is because all the film posters I have deconstructed and the ones that I have inspired me to do so only have one image. The main image. I have not yet decided on what will be my aim image.

Text Usage:
The text on the film poster will be aligned together so that it flows better and is therefore easier to read. If the text was scattered all over the poster then it would be much harder for the audience to read it and therefore it will be a poor form of advertisement as it is not fulfilling its main purpose. I may use an effect on the title of the film, the reason in me doing this is because I am wanting the title of the film to stand out compared to anything else. In the film posters that I have deconstructed they do not have a age rating on the film poster itself. Leaving it open for everyone to see basically. I am going too embed this onto my poster. The title of the film will be in the largest font, secondly lead by the tagline the last the essential information.

Layout and Font:
The layout and the font will be very similar to the few film posters that I have put previously on my blog. They have been successful in what they have done and I want to replicate that onto my poster. I want my poster to follow the conventions of a horror poster as I know then it will have a fan base and be successful. The font that I finally decide on using I want it to be easily recognizable.

Website Flat Plan

A flatplan shows where all articles and adverts are laid out, and in what order. It allows complete control of the publication production process avoiding confusion. A flat plan also needs to be clear so it can be easily understood with a chosen target audience to outline what your ideas are going to be.

My Logo First Attempt

This above is my first attempt at creating a logo for my company. Since it was on photoshop I found the task really difficult. No matter how long I could spend on improving my skills on photoshop, they really would never develop. So this is a very basic go at a logo. The 'H & H' stand for Hegarty and Hegarty production company, and the other shapes that are part of my logo do not mean anything, they are simply there to look good for presentation.

Time Management - First Update

When I was first told what had to be done by October half term, I will not lie I rather panicked and thought to myself that I will not have enough time/mentally that I am capable of doing so many posts and tasks in such a short amount of time.

Yet it has been a week and I have done rather a lot and I am not as worried as I previously was. In conclusion I truly believe I will get everything that I need done by the deadline, 24th of October.

Target Audience

For this I am going to create a questionnaire to find out my target audience. I will create this on Microsoft powerpoint.

Film Trailer Deconstruction 2

Since my first horror trailer deconstruction was more of a murder thriller sub genre, I have chosen to more of a paranormal horror, to broaden my horizons you could say, mix things up. I have also chosen to do a more modern horror. This is brand new, not even released yet compared to The Strangers, which was released in 2008. This trailer seems to be all surrounded around this doll, even though what I have presumed from the trailer that actually she is just a front for the real danger, which is the female in white that we see several time throughout the trailer.

This horror trailer, like all other horror trailers that I am looking at, shows the genre through many forms, the ones I will be looking at are the pace of the shots (Camerawork), how the sound effects the audience, the costume of the characters and the lighting on the set.

The costume of the characters are very old fashioned, from the costume of the characters and the interior of the household I can presume that this film is set in the last century. I have came to this conclusion as the costume is not modern, for example after the establishing shot, we see a mid shot of the couple in bed and the fact they are both wearing full set of loungewear, even though there is a possibility that I am over thinking it. But it could be set in a earlier time as they are wearing nightwear. In a modern film you would not see a couple of there age wearing nightwear, you could say it is something of the past.

When the film is inside a building, there is a lot of low key lighting, yet when there are shots of outside buildings is it high key lighting. You could say that this is a metaphor for where all the danger happens. When they are in the house there is a lot of bright colors surrounding Annabelle, this could also been seen as an oxymoron as all the danger happens when she is near, surrounding her. Majority of the light within the houses are ambient lighting from the sources such as lamps and roof lights. In my film trailer this is something I am looking into replicating.

As the same as The Strangers the pace of the shots are very similar, very upbeat and fast. The reason that they have done this is that it keeps the audience on the edge and wanting to see what happens next.

The scene where the camera closes up on Annabelle's face, then what we can presume she is doing since there is a demon inside of her, firstly shutting the door then turning the radio and record player on, this starts off as diegetic sound, then transforms into non diegetic sound. This is something that I want to replicate in my horror trailer. The lion share of the non diegetic sound is one that sounds like it is from a orchestra. This gives the audience a soft feeling, a feeling that everything is going to be okay, yet we all know it is not, a false sense of hope.

Horror Trailer Mood Board

There is a reason why I have created a mood board, saying what colour and props I want to use, and then what posters inspire me. These will all help me when I am making my final products.

Film Trailer Deconstruction 1

The link above is a link to 'The Strangers' film trailer.

My rationale for choosing this film trailer is because I have used some of the posters as my inspiration; so I thought it seemed fitting to use the same film.

The Strangers film trailer starts off the same as majority of other successful horror genre films, beginning where everything seems harmless and as if this could not be a horror film, but this is one of the most successful parts of the film trailer as it builds up the suspense and anticipation of what is to happen next. Further,  if you are watching a horror film/horror trailer, this is exactly what you are looking for- making you want to know more about what grisly fate is to befall the characters.

The lighting in the establishing trailer is very low key and monochromatic, to show a sparsely populated and suspenseful, although initially peaceful and serene, area with nobody around and set at night time- where little can be distinguished and where the watcher's imagination begins to "fill in the gaps" and to imagine what horrors lie ahead. So, from this, you get the sense of feeling that the couple in this film are trapped and the general impression is one of suffocation and claustrophobia, although (unlike the audience) they are unaware of the potential and inevitable horrors to come. The shots inside the building and of the couple, even though that they have ambient lighting from the lamp shades etc, there is still a sense of dullness and danger.

This above in one of the screen shots of some of the font used in the trailer, from this you can say that the text fades in and fades out, my theory is that this resembles the the actions of the three masked murders within this trailer. All the letters are in bold font and the reason that this is, is because it makes it more clear to read and builds up more of statement to the audience, so thew film makers will get more of a reaction.

The lengths of the shots are very short. Thus building up a high tempo and a fast pace, therefore building and setting the pace for this film trailer. The effect this has on the audience is they will always be thinking of what is going to happen next. There is obviously a few shots within this trailer that the shots are extended, and this creates a awkward and uncomfortable. Brief angles impeding inevitable disaster.

In my opinion, having watched the trailer many times, with and without sound. The sound makes this film trailer. I could watch the trailer over and over without sound and not scared, yet when I watch it with sound, I can look at the screen for the whole duration of the trailer. I simply get to scared. The reason that this is because of the sudden bangs at high volume, secondly the swings slowly creaking whilst the couple are talking. The reason this should scare the audience is because we know that it is only the couple that we can see by, yet we can hear that move, suggesting that there is someone there. Also knowing that a swing is essentially for children, that adds a sense of creepiness to the trailer, or finally the contrapuntal music playing in the background, these two sounds being diegetic, they hopefully make not just me but all of the audience feel uncomfortable as they know that the music doesn't fit the scene, so people over think and therefore get even more frightened. When the text fades onto the screen non diegetic music comes on and adds to the past feelings, making this trailer a rather unpleasant one to watch.

Inspirational Masks, Idea For Final Piece

The reason that I have put this on my blog is because I find these masks inspirational as they will help me, aid me in finding what sort of mask people find scary and what people like to see in horror trailer.

In this short video we see a lot of popular masks though out the film industry, in my film trailer I would like to have a mask in there as it will hide the identity. I will be going on the internet and searching for a mask, not any mask though I will be searching around the internet until I feel like I find something that has not been used before, and something that will still scare the audience when they watch the trailer, because in the long run that is the whole aim of the horror industry.

Possible Movie Trailers to Reconstruct

                                                              Lesbian Vampire Killers
                                                                          Psycho

Lesbian Vampire Killers was the first horror trailer that I thought of when I was told that I had to reconstruct a film trailer that already exists. The reason that this was the first film that came into my head was becasue of the simplicity of the film, it had really bad reviews as it was a film not taken seriously, so I feel like that is something that I can achieve. In relation to this, this is why I have also chosen Physco, not for the bad reviews and what people thought of the film, more the date of the film and what was available at that time, so this is why I feel like I can try and recreate what is in this film trailer.

Inspirational Posters

These above are posters from the movie staring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman called The Strangers. The reason that these are inspirations to my posters is the fact they are hidden identity, that the main characters are oblivious to what is surrounding them. The bottom poster of this film is clever as they are inspired by the earlier days of film posters. The fact that you can see the creases in the poster and the colour scheme. In addition to this people thought at that time that these films were more realistic than people do these days. As the film was distributed in 2008, comparing too The Purge: Anarchy which came out this year (2014).Where they have placed the tagline, I will try and follow that convention as I think it looks professional, not only that but it is easily visible for the audiences as it is eye line level and the correct font size.
These two poster again above are also inspirations because of the hidden identity, these posters are similar in that sense, although they have totally different colour schemes, I think both of them work well in different ways. I will bare this in mind when I am creating my promotion package poster. The reason I find the hidden identity theme because I believe in the theory that you find what you can't explain more terrifying rather when you see it for example.
The certain points that I find really interesting and exciting from the horror posters is mainly the color scheme and the general layout of the images, this is something that I want to replicate in my horror poster. The elements of these posters that I do not like and that I will not be replicting are the amount of the characters that are represented on the poster, what I would do is something like the last photo on the page, the close up of the antagonist in The Purge.

Written proposal of my Product

In my A2 coursework for media, I am creating a promotion package, from this, this will include three tasks. There is one task that is compulsory, and this is creating a trailer, the trailer that we have to create is one that is already out. What we have to do is replicate that trailer in the best way we can do so. This is the reason that I have chosen horror as my coursework genre, because it would be increadbly hard to replicate for example films like Star Wars and Transformers. The other two tasks we have to do we had a choice in what task to do. The choice was between:
A website homepage for the film
A film magazine front cover, featuring the film
A poster for the film
I have chosen the poster for the film, as I think that I could do this to the best of my ability, and with the best of my ability I feel like I will be able to reach a good grade to bump my final grade up.
The image below is a screenshot of something I would like to aspire too.

AS Coursework Reflection

Within my first year at college I was asked to create certain parts of a magazine for my coursework. I was asked to create a front cover, a contents page and a double page spread. So as you can guess this above is my final pieces of that coursework. I got a E grade in my coursework, so I was not only disappointed with the grade, but how my final products finished. I found photoshop really difficult to use and adapt to last year and this is proven in the pictures above. So since this year the coursework is more broad and open, I had the option of not doing a magazine, thus using photoshop, so I am now doing a trailer instead. What I will do this year compare to last year is spend more time on the coursework, and more time on the final product and make sure my final trailer is edited well so this will give me a higher grade going into the exam therefore giving me a better chance of passing Media Studies. Although I will be using photoshop this year to create my film poster, so my aim this year is to drastically improve on my work from last year, I will do this by spending more time on photoshop, in class time and my own time.
