Inspirational Posters

These above are posters from the movie staring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman called The Strangers. The reason that these are inspirations to my posters is the fact they are hidden identity, that the main characters are oblivious to what is surrounding them. The bottom poster of this film is clever as they are inspired by the earlier days of film posters. The fact that you can see the creases in the poster and the colour scheme. In addition to this people thought at that time that these films were more realistic than people do these days. As the film was distributed in 2008, comparing too The Purge: Anarchy which came out this year (2014).Where they have placed the tagline, I will try and follow that convention as I think it looks professional, not only that but it is easily visible for the audiences as it is eye line level and the correct font size.
These two poster again above are also inspirations because of the hidden identity, these posters are similar in that sense, although they have totally different colour schemes, I think both of them work well in different ways. I will bare this in mind when I am creating my promotion package poster. The reason I find the hidden identity theme because I believe in the theory that you find what you can't explain more terrifying rather when you see it for example.
The certain points that I find really interesting and exciting from the horror posters is mainly the color scheme and the general layout of the images, this is something that I want to replicate in my horror poster. The elements of these posters that I do not like and that I will not be replicting are the amount of the characters that are represented on the poster, what I would do is something like the last photo on the page, the close up of the antagonist in The Purge.

  1. Are there any particular elements of these posters that you would take into consideration when designing your own poster - any color scheme, font or stye that you would like to use - anything that you really dislike that you would like to avoid doing in your own text?
